If you are experiencing trouble going online or connecting to the network with your computer, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Checking network icon

You should first check the status of your network icon in the System Tray by the clock, which can usually be found in the bottom right of your screen. If you don't see the network icon, you may need to click on the up arrow to show all of the icons. See below for the different types of network icon statuses.

    a) Network Normal.

If you see the following network icon in your System Tray, then this is reporting that you are connected to your network without any problems.

    b) No Internet Access.

If you see the following network icon in your System Tray, then this is reporting that you may not have complete internet access. This can occur during normal operation and shouldn't be an indication of any problems, especially if you are connected to the Payomatic network since certain internet traffic is blocked for security reasons.

    c) Red X.

If you see the following network icon in your System Tray, then this means that you are not connected to any network and you will need to further troubleshoot by checking the physical network connection. Please see step 2 below for further instructions.

  2. Checking Physical Network Connection.

If you have determined that you are not connected to a network, you should check your physical network connection by following the steps below.

    a) Look on the rear of your computer and find the ethernet port as shown below, and be sure the ethernet cable is connected correctly. You can also try removing and reconnecting the cable to be sure it's connected securely. Please note that the cable has a tab the needs to be pressed for the cable to be released from the port.

    b) If the issue still remains, you can follow the ethernet cable to the other end and check to see if it is also connected correctly to where it plugs into. The two most common places that the cable will plug into are either a Network Jack or a Network Switch and they are shown below. You can also try removing and reconnecting the cable to be sure it's connected securely. Please note that the cable has a tab the needs to be pressed for the cable to be released from the port.

    Network Jack:    Network Switch:

    c) If the issue still remains and you found that the ethernet cable connects to a Network Switch, you should make sure that it is powered on. Check by the ethernet ports or on the front and rear of the Switch for any lights indicating that it has power. If the Switch is not powered on you should check to make sure that the power cable is both plugged in to the Switch and plugged into a known working power source. You can determine if the power source is good by connecting another device temporarily to check for power.

If non of the above steps resolve your issue, please create a ticket or contact the Helpdesk.
