If you received a replacement battery for an APC unit, use the following steps to replace the battery:

  1. Shut Down.

If this APC is powering any Computers, be sure to shut them down before continuing. If you are unsure you should contact the Helpdesk.

  2. Turn Off.

If not already turned off, turn off the APC by pressing the circle button on the front for less than 1 second. All lights should turn off when the APC is turned off.

  3. Disconnect.

Locate the main power cable which can be found in the back of the APC at the bottom, and follow it to the other end where you should find the plug. Disconnect this from the outlet before continuing.

  4. Remove.

Now that the APC is turned off and disconnected you can remove the old battery by following these steps:

    a) First turn the APC unit upside down and locate the removable cover. Remove the cover by pressing and sliding it out.
    b) Now carefully return the APC upright with your hand covering the opening. Slide the battery out of the compartment and disconnect both wires.

You should recycle the old battery at the nearest battery recycling store in your area. If you need assistance with this, please contact the Helpdesk.

  5. Replace.

Now that the old battery is removed, you can replace it with the new battery that you received by following these steps:

    a) Turn the APC unit upside down again.
    b) Start to slide the new battery in and connect both wires. Be sure to connect them to their corresponding terminals (Red and Black).
    c) Once both wires are connected you can finish sliding the battery into the compartment and replace the cover that was removed earlier.
    d) Return the APC upright.

  6. Reconnect and Test.

Now that the new battery is installed, you can reconnect the main power cable and turn the APC back on by following these steps:

    a) Reconnect the main power cable to the outlet you removed it from.
    b) Turn on the APC by pressing the circle button on the front for less than 1 second.

The APC will go through a self test mode where the "On Line" light will go off and the "On Battery" light will show for a few seconds. After about 5 seconds the "On Line" light should come back on and stay green, which indicates everything is back to normal.

If you get stuck at any point during the replacement process, or if the issue is still not resolved, please update/create a ticket or contact the Helpdesk.
